Power BI – All things Embedded

Looking to know all the options for embedding content? Knowing the differences between embedding Power BI content can be somewhat complex and nuanced.

In this session we reviewed the following options including Power BI Publish to Web Embedded, Teams/SharePoint Embedded, Secure Embedded, Power Pages Embedded and Custom Embedded. We will also reveal what options are not available in GCC and any other nuances specific to our government cloud.

NEW I will also be including the new Power BI embedded in PowerPoint with specific details on how to use in GCC.

  1. In the presentation it states that only “P SKUs” are available for Government. My agency is currently successfully using an “EM” SKU. It appears to be enough for what we are presently doing. Unfortunately, nobody has been able to provide us a method of determining what size SKU we would need. It sounds like it is either get the biggest and not worry or start small and if it fails then add more, or reschedule refreshes so that not too many are running at the same time. Some information about right sizing SKU would be beneficial. Thanks

    1. While it is true there are EM skus, I do not recommend them for any production workloads. If these meet your needs, then they can be considered but they are significantly underpowered and very tough to give any reasonable sizing guidance as it is dependent on your current workloads, memory needs, report views, query complexity, etc. There might be narrow use cases where an EM sku will suffice but I’ve gotten too many complaints over the years when after these are recommend so we have done exactly as you mention, start with a P1 as it will provide a good amount of Hoursepower for nearly all beginning situations.
